This is an amazing exercise and I really needed this in my life. Learning to forgive others and have love in my heart towards people I feel have wronged me is a huge deal. I am going to do this exercise often. I feel as humans we do not love enough. We should radiate love to everyone! The people you are closest to should be able to feel love from you. What greater way to achieve this than practicing the loving-kindness exercise. I believe optimal well being cannot be reached until you have a great love for everyone and everything thing around you. Everything has something beautiful about it, find it and love it!!!
I understand your post very well. I went through a bitter divorce after my ex had an affair with a family member. It was so difficult to learn to forgive them. I spent a lot of time trying to understand why they deserved my forgiveness, only to later gather that it is not for them but for myself. It took 3 solid years before I was at a point where I was prepared to do this. My life and become so much more positive after that point. People do need to learn to love more. I think as a parent, one of my biggest responsibilities is instilling this kind of a thought process in my daughter. I want her to understand the ways that society is flawed but to look past them. Be the better person. Always strive to be proud and love yourself.
